The region of the Route of the Rioja Alavesa's Wine is placed to the margin of the bank of the Ebro and protected by the south slope of the mountain range of Cantabria. The region descends in staggered hillsides and enjoys a microclimate favoured for the cultivating of the grapevine. A tradition that goes back in Alava beyond the Roman epoch. The best known wines from La Rioja Alavesa are red, although rosé and white ones are also produced.

The region of Rioja Alavesa-Laguardia is integrated by the municipalities of Baths of Ebro, Cripán, Elciego, Elvillar, Labastida, Laguardia, Lanciego, Lapuebla de Labarca, Leza, Moreda of Alava, Navaridas, Oyón, Samaniego, Villabuena of Alava and Yécora. These villages, linked traditionally to the culture of the wine, preserve still the captivation of the medieval villas raised among vineyards and hoard a vast natural, archaeological and artistic patrimony. Our visit focuses on Laguardia and Elciego, the localities that concentrate major captivation and where are the most important winerys of the region.

To speak of Laguardia is to speak of wine. The colour of its landscapes, its history and the life of its people keep a very close relationship with it; a proof of this is its wine production (about 12 million litres yearly). Here we will enjoy first a short guided tour to the city and after we will take a guided visit to one of the best winerys of the city. To finish Laguardia's hospitality we will try a delicious traditional local meal that mixes Basque and La Rioja's flavors.

Elciego is a picturesque town of international renown for its wine prestige reached across the time. Their uses, customs, history, climate and landscape, their human and artistic configuration make of Elciego a jewel worth knowing. Elciego is made up of Wines and Winerys, the centenary Art of the town, Frank Gehry's work in the Winery Marques of Riscal, its customs and its peoples, autochthonous gastronomy and tourist offers. There we will enjoy the beauty of its town and a visit to the marvelous winery and building of the Marques of Riscal complex including a tasting on this guided tour.
